What this service is
Snapfork counts calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates from a photograph of a meal and from a label. Almost all of it is free, and paying is optional — what money buys is described below. Signing in is required: use an email address you can confirm, or Google or Apple. An address you cannot confirm opens nothing.
What it is not
This is an estimate, not a measurement, and not medical advice. The numbers come from a language model and are sometimes wrong; check them, especially where treatment or how you feel depends on their accuracy. Take decisions about food, diets and medication with a doctor, not with this application.
Your data is your responsibility
The diary is stored on your device, and a sealed copy travels to the server — the key stays with you, so nothing there can open it. Clearing site data, reinstalling the application or running out of space on the phone erases it from the device, and the key along with it. What brings it back is the recovery code: enter it on the cleared or a new device, and the sealed copy opens again. Lose the code as well, with no other device of yours still holding the key, and the copy becomes unreadable for good — to us too. Write the code down (settings, “Data”) and export the diary to a file — the button is in the settings.

The model key
Recognition runs on your own key at one of nine platforms — and then your relationship with that platform over that key is yours: limits, payment and terms of use sit on their side. We never ask for the key — not in emails, not in support; it stays on your device.
There is a second route: the Snapfork key — free, two recognitions a day — where the photo passes through our server and onward through OpenRouter to the model provider; it is not stored here, and we do not hand the request to providers that retain what is sent. By default the app takes that route only after your key has failed, and a checkbox in settings turns it off. In that case the relationship with the platform and the provider is ours, not yours; what happens to the photograph along the way is in the privacy policy. That route comes with no promise of availability and none that it stays free — see the next section.
Paying for our key
Recognition through our key is free within a daily allowance. Beyond it you may put money on a balance and spend it per call, at what the call costs us plus a tenth. What you buy is calls, not a period of access: there is no subscription, nothing renews, and nothing is charged again without you asking for it.
The sum credited to the balance is smaller than the sum you pay, because the payment channel keeps a percentage and a fixed fee. The credited figure is shown next to each pack before the purchase, and it is the same figure the server writes to the ledger. The prices and the arithmetic are on the pricing page.
The balance has no expiry date. It goes back to you on request while it is unspent; a refund, a bank dispute and deleting the account each do something different to it, and all three are described on the refunds page, which is part of these terms.
The seller of record for the payment is the payment provider shown at the checkout, and the receipt and any tax come from them. Buying is available to people who may lawfully enter into this agreement where they live.
No guarantees
There is no guarantee of preservation, availability or uninterrupted operation: the service is maintained by one person in their spare time and may be shut down. Liability for losses arising from use of the service is not accepted, to the extent the law allows.
How it may not be used
Passing access to third parties, attempting to reach anyone else's data, loading the service with automated requests. Access may be closed without explanation — this is a personal service, not a public utility.

These terms may change along with the service; the date at the top of the page is the date of the last edit. By continuing to use it, you accept the current version.
